Unusual Presentation of Streptococcus anginosus With Severe Sepsis, Liver Abscess Secondary to Biliary Tract Perforation
Abstract
Streptococcus anginosus (S. anginosus) is a member of the anginosus group of streptococci. They are part of the normal commensal flora of human mucous membranes and are infrequent pathogens. Infections range from minor oral infections to serious, complicated, life-threatening infections. They are commonly associated with abscess formation, and bacteremia is rare. We report here a case of severe sepsis with liver abscess secondary to biliary tract perforation caused by S. anginosus in a diabetic female patient.
